On November 4 2014, staff involved with the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between Oxford Brookes and YASA Motors attended the Best of the Best 2014 KTP Awards in London, held by Innovate UK. The KTP took home the impressive award for ‘Engineering Excellence’.

The award, sponsored by the Royal Academy of Engineering, recognises ‘partnerships which have demonstrated excellence in the application of engineering skills’. Jonny Biddulph, Associate at YASA Motors, Dr James Broughton, Reader in Mechanical Engineering at Brookes and KTP supervisor, and David Simkin from YASA Motors attended the ceremony. Dr Broughton said of the success “to be recognised by The Royal Academy in Engineering for engineering excellence is a fantastic achievement and real honour. Being able to play such a significant part in the development of YASA's electric motor has been a truly enjoyable experience. Seeing Associate Jonny Biddulph, himself an engineering graduate from Brookes, take on the work so enthusiastically and competently has been particularly rewarding.

The team were also qualifiers in the ‘Best of the Best’ category. It was the strongest contested category to date, with only 9 out of 54 partnerships selected as finalists.
