Students enjoy Scientia residential event
From 4 - 6 July, sixth form students with a passion for mathematics, engineering and science arrived at Oxford Brookes for a taster of life at University at the Scientia residential.
The students were given the opportunity to try out University lectures and social events as well as develop their knowledge of the real life applications of STEM subjects.
During their stay students also had opportunities to attend hands-on workshops in building a Stirling engine, modelling a zombie apocalypse and taking part in a forensic investigation. The residential is designed to help budding scientists unlock their true potential and raise aspirations of coming to University along with developing key life skills in communication and team work. Scientia, coming from the Latin word for knowledge, aims to encourage young scientists not only to raise their career aspirations but also to facilitate an environment where they might become creative problem solvers with thinking rather than memorising minds.
