Undergraduate Programme Lead
I graduated in 1984 and was employed by GEC Avionics in Basildon, Essex as an Assistant Technologist before being promoted to Technologist and Senior Technologist in 1986 and 1989 respectively. During my time there I worked on a variety mechanical engineering projects including stabilised platforms, heat transfer problems and minimising error in line of sight targeting systems.
I joined Oxford Brookes University in September 1989 as a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering and have interests in engineering and mathematical pedagogy, consulting services using FEA for static and dynamics problems and Knowledge Exchange Partnerships (KEP’s). During my years at Oxford Brookes University I have overseen and developed the programmes in engineering from a single BEng in Engineering to our current offering of three BEng’s in Mechanical, Automotive and Motorsport Engineering with complimentary MEng programmes. In this same period I have led development of two BSc programmes in Motorsport Technology and Mechanical Engineering and contributed significantly to the structure and organisation of MSc programmes in Mechanical Engineering, Motorsport Engineering, Automotive Engineering and Racing Engine Design. In my current role as Undergraduate Programme Lead I have responsibility for all Undergraduate provision in Engineering both at the University and at Associate College Partners who run our Foundation Degrees and Top Up Years for Foundation Science degrees to BSc Honours degrees.
My interests include:
Finite Element Analysis, Dynamics, Engineering Education and Pedagogy as well as swimming and keeping fit.
Most recently I have changed the focus of the degree programme in year one and year two to include the design, evaluation and business case for making and selling Stirling Engine Models that have improved the integrated nature of the degrees and increased student satisfaction and enjoyment across these programmes.
