Second and final year entry

If you have completed an appropriate course you could be eligible to apply for second or final year entry on to one of the prestigious Oxford Brookes University Engineering courses.

This means you could study towards an Oxford Brookes University degree with a minimum of one or two years study if your previous qualification is recognised by the University.

  • 2nd Year - IELTS - 6.0 overall with 6.0 in reading and writing; 5.5 in listening and speaking
  • Final Year - IELTS - 6.5 overall with 6.0 in reading and writing; 5.5 in listening and speaking

How to apply

Please apply through UCAS. We have carefully matched the syllabi of the following courses against our own to establish how much credit may be awarded to prospective students. However, entry onto one of our courses is not automatically guaranteed as each application will be considered on its own merits. you will be required to send a copy of your transcripts to our admissions team (admissions@brookes.ac.uk)

Below are some of the courses/qualifications recognised by Oxford Brookes University, enabling direct entry into second or final year degrees:

Edexcel HND

QualificationOxford Brookes University course

Edexcel HND in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline)

Typically, students having a HND in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline) will be considered for entry in to Year 2 of the BEng / MEng programmes with the expectation that they hold at least a merit in the two mathematics modules (at Level 4 and 5) within the HND. Exceptional candidates, for example with distinction in all modules and with additional experiential or certificated learning, may be considered for Year 3 entry. All applications will be considered on an individual basis.

Foundation degrees

QualificationOxford Brookes University course

Typically, students having a suitable foundation degree or equivalent at another UK higher education institution can be accepted onto a Brookes course at second or final year level. Students will typically be accepted with 55% or higher from foundation courses that can be demonstrated to be suitably mapped to the IENG framework.

FdEng Mechanical Engineering

On successful completion of the Foundation degree you will have the opportunity to transfer onto the BSc in Mechanical Engineering and related courses at Oxford Brookes. You will need a minimum of one year to gain sufficient credits to qualify for an honours degree, or slightly longer if you wish to transfer to other degree programmes.

Electrical and Electronic Engineering

You will have the opportunity to transfer onto the BSc in Electronics Engineering at Oxford Brookes. You will need a minimum of one year to gain sufficient credits to qualify for an honours degree.

Banbury and Bicester College

FdEng Motorsports - Performance and Automotive Technology

On successful completion of the Foundation degree you will have the opportunity to transfer onto BSc Motorsport Technology or related courses at Oxford Brookes University.

Bridgwater College

FdEng Motorsport Engineering

On successful completion of the Foundation degree you will have the opportunity to transfer onto the BSc in Motorsport Technology and related courses at Oxford Brookes. You will need a minimum of one year at Oxford Brookes to gain enough credits to qualify for a BSc, or slightly longer than this if you wish to transfer to other degree programmes, such as a BEng.

Electrical and Electronic Engineering

At the end of the course you will have the opportunity to progress onto the BSc in Electronic Engineering at Solihull College or Oxford Brookes University. You will need a minimum of one year to gain sufficient credits to qualify for a BSc honours degree.
